ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT This study investigates comparatively the phytochemical constituents and antioxidant properties of Vernonia amygdalina (Delile) and Senna alata (L.) Roxb. Leaves collected in Maiduguri, Nigeria. Both plants are widely used in traditional medicines. Qualitative phytochemical screening revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and phenolics. Antioxidant activity was evaluated using DPPH radical scavenging assay. Results showed significant antioxidant activity in both extracts, with V. Amygdalina showing stronger effects. These findings support their ethnomedicinal use and encourage further pharmacological studies.
